Light Reading for the Heavy Heart: A Life In Reflection

share

“‘No regrets’ doesn’t mean living with courage, it means living without reflection. To live without regret is to believe you have nothing to learn, no amends to make, and no opportunity to be braver with your life.”

Brené Brown

Living with courage is tough. We all like to feel courageous, but to be courageous means our behaviors have to be affected. This is what Brené Brown means when she says “to live without regret is to believe you have nothing to learn.”

Regrets are a way to audit our lives. We should take every opportunity to be still. To be in the now. To accept our mistakes and leave them in the past. And yet, we need to reflect on those mistakes. Are we continuing to make them? Would we choose the same path? Would we have said that to our friend?

A life in reflection is a life well-lived. It’s a life of compassion — for self and others. A life in reflection is a life of learning – a journey to our deepest self.

Today’s Thought

I am not my mistakes. I don’t allow regret to judge me; rather, I look upon my choices with reflection. I am brave enough to audit my choices. I am brave enough to change my behavior, to love others, to be gentle with myself.
