What’s New at the July 23 WordFest Live

share

Whether it’s based on feedback or our own creativity, our intrepid team of volunteers is continuing to look for ways to give attendees the most fun and function they can throughout our free event!!

New Fun

Sure, this is about WordPress, but it’s also a festival! We want you to kick back and have a good time hanging out with friends, meeting the sponsors, and just generally enjoying yourself.

Share your Photo Booth pics on social media with the event hashtag: #WordFestLive. Win something cool from our generous sponsors. And don’t miss the community interviews, where you might find a new friend.

Photo Booth

We’re introducing a bit of fun to enable attendees to jump into our virtual photo booth and take a snap of themselves at WordFest Live this time around. Be sure to share your WordFest Live experience on social media with your photo booth snaps.

Games Tent

This is your chance to grab a freebie from our Global Sponsors.  Visit the Games Tent and try your hand at any of the games there.  You never know what you might just come away with – a year of free web hosting, access to premium communities or maybe some cool swag!

Community Interviews

For this WordFest Live, we decided we wanted to add some interviews of different members of the WordPress community. We’ve partnered with some of our sponsors to select some of the people we will be interviewing, and our organizers have reached out to others. Several WordPress podcasters will be doing the recorded interviews. We can’t wait to hear all the great conversations!

New Functionality

A festival isn’t fun if it isn’t functional as well. Not only do we want everyone to have a good time, we also want to make it as accessible as possible. For this event that means we’ve upgraded our captioning and platform navigation as well as building in more time to enjoy more than just the sessions.

Live Human Captioning

We want to make WordFest Live as accessible as we possibly can. To do this, we need help from the community to fund Live Captioning across the whole event. Live Captions benefit all attendees, not just those who are deaf or hard of hearing.

If you’re wondering how this benefits your business on a practical level, read through 3 Business Benefits of Sponsoring Live Human Captioning.

Easier to Navigate

We’ve improved the overall flow of the event to simplify movement around the platform. Additionally, we’ve worked to make it easier to understand what time things are happening and made the schedule more available.

Time to Hang Out in the Venue

This trip around the globe, we’ve added in more time for you to experience the different activities outside of the sessions. Chill in the Community Tent, or win something fun from the Games Tent.

We love our speakers, we want you to hear them, but we also want you to enjoy all the festival has to offer!

A New Fundraising Opportunity

Fun and function aren’t our only focus. This is also a fundraising event for Big Orange Heart, with all proceeds going to support resources to aid the mental health of remote workers. That’s where the optional donation at registration goes, as well as all of our sponsorship funds outside of the cost of holding the event.

To add another opportunity for anyone to raise funds, our clever fundraising team is inviting attendees to join us for a special challenge — The #24kStepstoMentalHealth Challenge — where you can help raise funds for mental health by pledging to take a fixed number of steps.

We are asking WordFest Live attendees, WordPress enthusiasts, and supporters of mental health anywhere in the world to join us in taking not one, not two, but 24,000 steps toward mental health.

It’s a big number but we can do it together!

Pledge to run/walk/hula hoop a fixed number of steps every day until the big day and share your journey with friends and colleagues. You can also choose to take part in our 24-hour relay where 6 participants around the globe will complete 24,000 steps between them (4,000 steps per individual).

There are multiple ways you can participate:

  • 24,000 steps in the run-up to WordFest Live
  • 24,000 steps in 24 hours on the day of the event – a cross-continent relay race where participants in groups of six will complete a total of 24,000 steps
  • Come up with your own fundraiser like some of our supporters have: 24 days of artwork, 24,000 yards of swimming, and 24 days of mindful movement. Get creative!
